Commissioning a Custom Live Edge Table

Every table I create is made to order, beginning with the selection of an exceptional hardwood slab.

Whether you're envisioning a residential dining table, an oversized conference table, or something entirely unique, I'll work with you to develop a one-of-a-kind piece suited to your space and vision.

How the Process Works

01 — Share Your Vision

Tell me about your project, including your desired dimensions, preferred wood species, design preferences, delivery location, and approximate budget. I personally review each inquiry and aim to respond within two business days.

02 — Select Your Wood

I'll help you explore suitable hardwood slabs, including rare Claro walnut, Bastogne walnut, and other exceptional materials. You'll receive photographs and information about available options based on your project's dimensions, appearance, and budget.

03 — Design & Pricing

We'll discuss the tabletop shape, live edge profile, base design, finish, and other details. I'll prepare an individualized quote based on your selected materials and project specifications.

04 — Craftsmanship & Delivery

Once the design is approved and your deposit is received, fabrication begins in my Valley Center, California workshop. Your finished table is carefully inspected, prepared, and arranged for delivery or installation.

How Much Does a Custom Live Edge Table Cost?

Every table is unique, and pricing depends on several factors:

  • Wood species, rarity, and natural figure

  • Slab length, width, thickness, and condition

  • Single-slab versus multi-slab construction

  • Custom base design and fabrication requirements

  • Finishing, delivery, and installation

Why Do Custom Live Edge Tables Vary So Much in Price?

No two hardwood slabs are alike, and the cost of the raw material can vary dramatically.

A relatively common hardwood slab may cost hundreds of dollars, while an exceptionally rare, oversized, or highly figured Claro or Bastogne walnut slab can cost tens of thousands of dollars before fabrication even begins.

What Should I Budget for a Custom Table?

Most standard-size custom dining tables typically range from $15,000 to $25,000, depending on the selected materials and design.

Premium commissions featuring rare hardwoods, exceptionally large single slabs, or complex fabrication can range from $25,000 to $150,000 or more.

Every project is individually quoted based on its specifications and available materials.

Why Do You Ask for My Budget?

Because the cost of individual slabs varies so widely, understanding your approximate budget helps me identify suitable materials before beginning the sourcing and design process.

My goal isn't simply to find the most expensive slab available. It's to find the right wood for your project while respecting the investment you're comfortable making.

Providing a budget allows me to narrow the selection, recommend appropriate options, and prepare more meaningful quotes.

You don't need to know exactly what your table will cost before reaching out. An approximate budget or price range is enough to begin the conversation.

Deposits & Payment

Custom commissions generally require a 50% deposit to begin production. The remaining balance is due upon completion, before shipping or delivery.

Payment arrangements and any applicable fees are confirmed before an order is placed. Additional information is available in my Terms & Conditions.

Production & Delivery

Most custom tables are completed within approximately 60–90 days after design approval and deposit, depending on project complexity, material availability, and my current production schedule.

Every table is handcrafted in San Diego County, California, with delivery available nationwide.

Local delivery and installation in the San Diego area generally starts at $1,500 for dining tables and $500 for smaller pieces. Specialized handling, difficult access, or unusually large installations may require a separate quote.

Nationwide shipping, crating, and white-glove delivery services can be arranged according to each project's requirements. International delivery is considered upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose my own wood slab?

Absolutely. Selecting the right slab is one of the most important parts of commissioning a custom table.

I'll provide photographs, dimensions, and pricing for suitable slabs so you can select the wood that best fits your vision. In-person slab viewing may also be arranged by appointment.

Do you build tables longer than 12 feet?

Yes. Extra-large dining and conference tables are one of my specialties.

My completed projects include tables measuring 20 feet and longer, including exceptionally large single-slab walnut tables. These commissions require specialized sourcing, equipment, and fabrication experience.

Do you offer custom table bases?

Yes. I offer custom wooden trestle bases, fabricated steel bases, and other designs tailored to each table.

Available finishes include powder-coated steel and select decorative metal finishes. I can also accommodate certain pre-made bases when appropriate for the project.

What finish do you use?

I typically finish my indoor hardwood tables with Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C, a premium hardwax oil that enhances the natural beauty of the wood while providing a durable, natural-looking finish.

For high-traffic commercial applications or projects with specialized requirements, alternative finishes may be available.

Every finish requires appropriate care, and I'll provide maintenance recommendations for your completed table.

Can I visit your workshop?

My workshop is not open to the general public, but private appointments can be arranged for clients who would like to discuss their projects, view available materials, or see work in progress.

My workshop is located in Valley Center, California, in San Diego County.

Do you work with interior designers and businesses?

Yes. I regularly work with residential clients, interior designers, business owners, and other industry professionals.

I welcome collaborations involving custom dining tables, conference tables, and large-scale installations.

Do you ship outside California?

Yes. I arrange nationwide delivery for custom tables.

Shipping methods, insurance, crating, and installation requirements are evaluated individually based on the size of the table and its destination.

International delivery may also be arranged upon request.
